The recent press release from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia revealed that Africa’s giant Airline, Ethiopian Airlines brand new Airbus A350-900 on Abuja airport route launched from the company headquarters. This is the latest technology of the world’s modern airplane combined with state-of-the-art approach human skills in providing luxury and comfort to the most competitive airline industry.
The official opening of the Abuja route was held on April 18, 2017. Speaking at the launch ceremony, The Ethiopian Airline Group CEO, Tewolde GebreMariam said; “As a veteran Pan African Airline, it has always been our source of pride to connect our beloved continent Africa together and beyond. Our presence in Nigeria dates back to the 1960’s, same time the Federal Republic of Nigeria got independence from foreign colonization. We have always given our best to Nigeria at all times, both at good and challenging times, and we have been part of Nigeria’s historic growth considering ourselves as vital partners in the country’s growth development agenda.”
The new aircraft A350 makes a landmark history in the Airline’s 70 years of service in the African skies giving exceptional levels of luxury, comfort and reliability in air travel passenger experience.
Ethiopian Airlines expects to avail critical air transport connectivity options that will ensure continental connectivity options and far beyond across the world. The airline currently operates 20 weekly flights to Nigeria’s four leading cities; Lagos, Abuja, Enugu and Kano with superb connectivity to its global networks spread across five continents. The airline is optimistic that her passengers will enjoy extra features of this latest flying big machine comprised of amazing cabin interiors, latest high definition touch screen, personal monitors with multiple movie channels, wider seats and windows, twin engine with noise-proof to minimize noise levels to almost nil, advanced air conditioning technology and full LED mood lighting. It is on record that Ethiopian Airlines is the first airline in Africa to operate the A350 in the African skies having ordered 14 others and currently flying three.
Also to improve on quality service delivery to their esteemed customers, Star Alliance members, Ethiopian Airlines and Singapore Airlines will expand their code-share agreement effective June 1, 2017 offering customers traveling between Africa and Asia seamless connectivity from Addis Ababa allowing access to multiple destinations in Australia, China, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Thailand and Vietnam through Singapore Airlines wide network. In return, Singapore Airlines customers will gain access to Ethiopian Airlines large intra-African network that include Botswana, Burkina Faso, Chad, Cote D’Ivoire, Kenya, Nigeria, Mozambique, The Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
Ethiopian Airlines Acting Vice President, Strategic Planning and Alliances, Girma Shiferaw, said; “I wish to thank Singapore Airlines for the successful completion of this vital Agreement. The two airlines will now synergize their respective networks in Africa and Asia offering customers the best available connectivity options of one ticket and one single check-in desk at the first airport. It will also play an important role in enhancing investment, trade and tourism ties between Africa and a highly developed, innovative and business-friendly Singapore.
Singapore Airlines Senior Vice President Marketing Planning, Tan Kai Ping, said, “We are delighted with our expanded code-share operations with Ethiopian Airlines. This is significant expansion of our important partnership in line with our ongoing effort to travel options and convenience to our customers traveling between Africa, Asia and South Pacific.”
The expanded code-share flights are subject to regulatory approvals and will be aggressively made available for sale across various sales channels. Ethiopian Airlines currently operates the youngest fleet on the African continent with an average aircraft age of less than five years, serving more than 90 international destinations across five continents with over 240 daily departures. Singapore Airlines operates a modern passenger aircraft fleet of more than 100 aircrafts. Together with wholly owned passenger airline subsidiaries SilkAir, Scoot and Tigerair, the SIA Group’s combined network covers more than 130 destinations around the world.
Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest airline group also recently signed codeshare agreement with Air Europa, a free sale codeshare agreement allowing partners access to each other’s network by creating smooth connection from their respective hubs. The Ethiopian Airline Chief Commercial Officer, Busera Awel, said, “We are pleased to optimize our collaboration with Air Europa through this instrumental code share agreement and as a customer focused airline, we constantly strive to meet our customers’ ever growing demand in critical connectivity options. This particular strategic collaboration will enable our esteemed customers conveniently reach multiple destinations in Europe through one point check-in at point of origin. Ethiopian Airlines wide African network will benefit Air Europa customers 53 connections in major African cities with minimum layover at the airline’s Addis Ababa hub.”
